Through trial and error, I’ve found this quickly approaching time of year to be the ‘tell all of a man’s relationship status’. It took me one time and ONE TIME ONLY to experience this heart crushing and traumatic event. I was still a teenager and quite the naive one at that! After dating a guy consistently for 6 months +, seeing him at least 5 days a week, and spending 3 out of 4 weekends of a given month together, I was UNABLE to locate this man on Christmas day.

I received an early morning phone call December 26th with some sorry sob story about how his relatives came over for dinner and started fighting and the police were involved. At that point, I was so disgusted that I no longer cared and hung the phone up in midst of his rambling. I learned a valuable lesson from the experience.

To me, this is understandable for a young lady to go through when she doesn’t have much dating experience. What bothers me though is how I continually see GROWN WOMEN repeatedly putting their selves in this same situation. How is it that you allow a man to have a key to your home and come and go as he pleases even though he has told you he still keeps some of his personal belongings at his child’s mother’s house? You don’t see this man every day and he is MIA on holidays. You think this is your man? Then should you do so happen to see him on a holiday, it’s late in the evening. He didn’t answer his phone all day either?

Get a grip. We keep saying, “These men are dogs…they aren’t worth a dime…blah blah blah…” They only do what we allow them to. If more of us had sense enough to recognize the signs right in front of our faces, there would not be so much opportunity to get ‘dogged’. And if they don’t have the opportunity readily available to them, go figure…they can’t take it, can they?

Ladies it is totally okay to say: “I’m too good for you. I made a huge mistake in dealing with you. Please lose my number. Have a great life, whatever you can make out of it.”

I understand we all have bills. Everyone is on the ‘grind’…trying to ‘get it’. But at the end of the day, once we make it past all this…we have just enough time to catch our breath, momentarily relax and then BAM! Here comes some OTHER hardship!

Reflect briefly and count your blessings. Have you NOT always made it through? We are all still standing, breathing, blessed, healthy, and safe. There is a plan for all of us. No one is forgotten. Don’t lose sight of what you want in life because of $. You can’t take it with you when you’re gone so “Just live your life…Aaaaaaaaay…” LOL.
